Participation
Although there will be some writing, the majority of what we do in choir is singing as a group. It is important that everyone is actively participating everyday, because each person’s learning is based on the interaction between everyone in the room. We cannot learn to sound like a group if everyone in the group isn’t participating to their fullest capability. We ALL rely on each other in order to be successful!
* Being sick or unable to sing is not an excuse to be working on other class work. It is still possible to participate and observe even if you are not physically able to sing.
Concert Attendance
Our concerts serve as the culmination of our learning and are viewed as a “Final Exam,” where you will have a chance to put into practice all that you have learned during your time in choir. It is important that ALL of the students be there and participate in these concerts. Students will be receiving a grade for their participation in the concerts.
Concert Absence
All choir students are expected to attend and participate in the FOUR required concerts this school year. The concerts are graded events! Being that there are only 4 concerts all year, other practices, performances, and games will not be considered excused absences. If there is a conflict with the performance, Mrs. Garlock must be notified in WRITING no later than 2 WEEKS prior to the concert. In the event of a family emergency or sudden illness, the student must bring a note on their first day back from home explaining why they missed the concert.
Students who miss the concert will be required to perform the concert for Mrs. Garlock at their earliest convenience (within a one week time frame) to earn the concert points missed. If the student fails to perform for Mrs. Garlock, the concert grade will become a zero.
