types of assessments for evaluation
SINGING TESTS: Individual Assessment
There will be singing tests throughout the year on musical excerpts and other benchmarks as they relate to the State Music Standards.
Students will be given ample notice when these tests will occur.
Students will be evaluated on singing tests according to their singing experience and ability.
Most assessments will be performed live in class during the normal class period (not in front of other students)
Some assessments will be on Tape/CD/MP3/voice recorder.
SINGING TESTS: Group Assessments
Prior to each concert, there is a large group assessment on the music selections for the concert. (SEE Rubric: Large group singing assessment).
These assessments will be recorded so the director can review the music and give the proper feedback and evaluation.
ALL STUDENTS EARN THE SAME GRADE FOR THIS TYPE OF ASSESSMENT.
WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS
All papers, except in-class essays must be typed.
Concert evaluations (these are often times extra credit assignments) will be graded primarily on ideas and content, voice and conventions.
These evaluations should contain the following:
Where and when did the concert take place
Who was performing
Site two or three pieces performed (if evaluating an opera or musical, please include
the complete title of the work) Include titles and composers
The body of the paper should include your impressions, evaluations and feelings about the
performance. Did you enjoy the music? Would you return to hear the group perform?
The following are acceptable concerts that can be evaluated upon:
Any band, orchestra or choir performance at Other Senior High School in the area.
Any band, orchestra or choir performance at a Youth Group or College Level.
Private recitals
Church performance when the majority of the performance is music (not a regular service)
ALTERNATIVE ASSESSMENT FOR EXCUSED CONCERTS.
In the event that a student misses a performance, it is up to the student to contact the director about an alternative assessment.
Most alternative assessments will require the students to perform a mini concert to replace the experience of performing on the concert.
